THE MTV MONUMENTAL
INSTALLATION
The Brief:
There’s only one MTV.
The challenge was to create something that embodied its DNA — music, energy, rebellion, and presence. It had to stand anywhere: on stage at award shows, inside The Lair, or in MTV’s Sydney HQ.
Something that didn’t just represent MTV — it had to feel like MTV.
The Idea: A MONU”MENTAL” INSTALLATION
It began with a simple question: What if we built something real — something with weight, presence, and soul?
The answer became a three-metre-high, fully functional installation made entirely of restored vintage speakers — a living, breathing sculpture that doubled as a sound system and art piece, representing the heartbeat of the MTV brand in Australia.
The Process:
For a week, I drove across Sydney collecting over a hundred unwanted speakers.
I stripped, painted, wired, and rebuilt each one — covered in sawdust, running on caffeine and instinct, chasing a vision that could only be built by hand.
The Result:
The finished piece stood proudly in the MTV Sydney foyer for over two years. It later hit stages, powered award shows, and became a talking point for everyone who heard or felt it. Because when something’s built with your hands — with sweat, sound, and soul — people don’t just see it.
They feel it.
This wasn’t just a set piece.
It was a love letter to music, craft, and culture.
