WE DIDN’T CHANGE MEN.
WE CHANGED WHERE THEY TALK
The Problem -In Far North Queensland, young men are taking their lives at some of the highest rates in Australia. Not because help doesn’t exist. But because they don’t talk.
The Insight - In regional Australia, men don’t open up in therapy rooms. They open up over a beer. The problem is…we’ve stopped making space for the yarn.
The Idea - Legends of the Yarn - A grassroots design intervention that brings mental health support back to where conversations already happen.
The Approach - We didn’t create a new system.
We redesigned an old one, that no one else was brave enough to.
Using a small country pub, we turned familiar rituals into moments of connection: Beer cans that link anonymously to real support.
Walls that tell local stories.Conversations led by locals, not experts. Every touchpoint designed to do one thing:
make it easier for men to talk… earlier.
The Impact : Because in regional Australia, support only works if it feels like it belongs.
This is mental health delivered through story, mateship, and place.
